Let’s talk fall fashion trends for women over 40…

It’s less than two weeks until the official first day of fall, but I can hardly contain myself. I know some of you are still loving this hot weather and are clinging on to every pool and beach day to the last minute, but personally, I am ready to switch seasons.

Yes, I admit, I love fall fashion and pumpkin spice lattes. But even more, I am ready to move on from the fast-paced, hot summer, to a slower routine and hopefully a bit cooler weather. Heck, I’ve been playing Autumn in New York by Frank Sinatra on repeat for the past few weeks, and I can’t even look at a pumpkin without wanting to decorate!

One thing we can probably agree on is that it’s never too early to start planning your fall wardrobe. You may have heard the term transitional style. It sounds fancy, but all it really means is using your summer clothing pieces to transition into the next season. For example, pairing your white summer dress (who says you shouldn’t wear white after Labor Day?) with a cute cardigan and booties. Or pairing your cut-off jean shorts with a blazer, fun scarf, and high boots. You get the picture!

You can also get a few new pieces that will be your staple on repeat. Pieces such as open-front cozy cardigans, faux-leather Moto jackets, and leggings, scarfs and felt fedora hats, wool coats, and suede knee-high boots or ankle booties. You can alternate those with your summer staples like washed-out jeans, graphic tees, dresses, and flowy maxi skirts.

And how about colors? I don’t always go for trends, but this year’s trend aligns with my overall style. It is very subtle. You will be seeing a lot of neutrals like taupe, white, beige, mustard yellows, and one of my favorite colors this year, rust or burnt orange. Something about this color has me wanting to go visit a pumpkin patch with a hot pumpkin spice latte in my hand.

Now tell me, what is your favorite thing about fall?
