Let’s talk our happy place…

We all have that one place that makes us feel good, our happy place. In reality, I have a few but Cayucos tops the list.  It is in this place that I tune out my constant to do list in my head and it is in this place where I can truly relax.

Cayucos

This charming town is located on the California coast, in the San Luis Obispo County. It is to the North of Morro Bay and south of Cambria.  The population of the town is around 2,500 people which makes it one of the now rare, quiet and uncrowded coastal towns. One of my family’s favorite things to do here, besides playing on the beach and flying kites, is scrolling down the streets downtown. There are so many charming shops and restaurants!

Our favorite restaurant in Cayucos is Schooners.  The views of the pier from the restaurant are breathtaking and after a long day at the beach, their legendary calamari and a cold beer taste like a little piece of heaven.

Across the street is the local Brown Butter Cookie Co., where you can taste the most delicious sea salt cookies.  My favorites are the Original, Coconut Lime, and Coffee flavors.

Since the town of Morro Bay is only about ten minute drive away, we hit our favorite spots there as well.  We love visiting The Shell Shop with unique shells from all over the world.  Our kids started a shell collection and every time we visit, they each purchase a new shell.  When we get hungry, we grab a warm clam chowder in a bread bowl from Giovanni’s Fish Market & Galley and enjoy the views of Morro Bay rock.

Carousel Taffy Shop

Our kids also love to pay a visit to the Carousel Taffy shop. They always offer free samples and some amazing flavors you would never dream of.  There is also the option to visit some boutique local wineries or rent stand up paddle boards and kayaks.

The sunsets here are captivating

But the best part about my happy place?  The gorgeous sunsets my family and I get to watch from our patio, overlooking the Morro Bay Rock.  It is here, sitting with a glass of wine, snuggled together in warm blankets, listening to the waves crashing below, that we feel truly at peace.

Where is your happy place?
